State of the Fixed Wireless Industry 2020

This has been a year like no other. As COVID-19 swept the globe in 2020, remote work and school mandates pushed networks to their limits. We saw changes in both the amount of network traffic and the types of applications people used online.

The internet played a key role in keeping people connected throughout this tumultuous year. As jobs, education, and even healthcare moved online, the importance of having reliable internet was more apparent than ever.

Despite all the gloom, many WISPs stepped up to ensure that their communities remained connected.

WISP Virtual Summit

WISPA CEO Claude Aiken said at the first-ever WISP Virtual Summit that “WISPs step up and stand out. We have yet to find the limits of what WISPs can accomplish, and this pandemic is no different.”

Claude also said that “WISPs play such an integral role in connecting all Americans to the internet (by) going where no terrestrial provider has gone before, providing better service than incumbents who take billions in government money. WISPs are both a player in the market place and the ones who make good on our nation’s promise to our unserved and underserved populations. That promise (is) that who you are and where you live shouldn’t define whether or not you have internet. I am proud to work for a group like this that has stepped up in so many ways.”
