CanWISP 2024
The Preseem Team is currently getting ready to head back to Canada’s capital region for this year’s CanWISP 2024 conference. Held at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau from Wednesday, February 14th to Friday, February 16th, the event is hosted by the Canadian Association of Wireless Internet Service Providers (or CanWISP for short, as you may have already guessed).
We’ve put together some of our picks for events and sessions to check out below—hopefully, you’ll find it useful if you’re also attending.
If you’re not familiar with Gatineau, it’s located literally across the Ottawa River from Canada’s capital city, making it a great location for an extended work trip/vacation. Speaking of which, the conference does start on Valentine’s Day and CanWISP is offering a special registration package for significant others—just saying.

Sessions and Events to Attend at CanWISP 2024
Wednesday, February 14th
- Quickfire Presentations: 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. – After the official welcome remarks from CanWISP and a panel session on Gigabit Wireless, get to know a little bit about the vendors you’ll be seeing in the Expo Hall (like Preseem!) as they deliver 60-second pitches on their services.
- Grounding: 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. – Join Andy Moss, Product Manager Broadband at Alliance Corporation, for a talk on the importance of grounding tower and CPE equipment. Learn best practices and find out if your ISP is on the right track.
- Tarana ngFWA + 6 GHz: 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. – Hosted by Vardin Amiri, Senior Sales Engineer at Tarana, this session will look at how G1 technology and the new 6 GHz spectrum is delivering high-speed, reliable broadband.
Thursday, February 15th
- Breakfast by Preseem: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. – Start Day 2 of CanWISP 2024 the right way with a complimentary breakfast sponsored by your old pals Preseem. Fuel up for the day and network with your peers at this laid-back event.
- Fiber 101: 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. – Or “Fibre 101,” seeing as this is a Canadian event 🍁Join Dave Clelland and Bayan Deanparvar from MBSI WAV for a primer on how fixed wireless providers can get into the fiber space, along with all the new acronyms, regulations, and tools you’ll need to know.
- Key Metrics for WISPs: 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. – Nathan Stooke is the CEO of the highly successful Illinois-based ISP Wisper Internet. In this session, he’ll be sharing some of the tried-and-tested metrics you can use to truly understand how well your WISP is performing.
- Hockey Night in Ottawa 🏒 – Our friends at TDL Gentek have generously organized a trip across the Ottawa River to see the hometown Senators in NHL action against the visiting Anaheim Ducks. Buses leave the hotel at 5:30 p.m. Game on!

Friday, February 16th
- Fiber and Wireless—How They Can Work Together: 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. – Hear from Rhonda Lafrance, Chief Marketing Officer of Alberta ISP MCSnet, on how they use a mixture of fixed wireless and fiber to deliver high-speed internet to rural communities, towns, and cities.
- Spectrum Quest—2024 and Beyond: 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – Join Tacit Law Technical and Economic Advisor Brenda Bouchette for a look at what spectrum will be available to small ISPs this year, how the 2023 spectrum auction will affect the industry, and what to expect in the future.
- Meet the New Fixed Wireless Network Report: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Get all the key stats and insights from the latest edition of Preseem’s annual Fixed Wireless Network Report direct from our CEO, Gerrit Nagelhout. Download a copy in advance to follow along!
Visit the Expo Hall and Meet the Preseem Team
With lots of vendors and over 200 registrants in attendance, the Expo Hall is sure to be a busy spot at CanWISP 2024. Please note the hall is only open during designated times, so make sure to plan your days accordingly to optimize your time with vendors.
Expo Hall hours:
- Wednesday, February 14th: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Thursday, February 15th: 12:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Friday, February 16th: No Expo Hall hours
