AfricaCom 2024: Your Guide to What’s Happening

The Preseem Team is heading to Africa! We’re excited to join more than 15,000 attendees and 300 exhibitors at AfricaCom at the Africa Tech Festival, taking place Nov. 11-14 in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa.

Preseem will be stationed in the Ontario Pavilion at booth D3. If you’re at the event, come and chat with our friendly team—Gerrit Nagelhout (Co-founder and CEO), Rob Payne (Director of Sales), and Sam McManus-Redden (Senior Customer Success Manager).

Checking the AfricaCom conference agenda, there’s plenty of interesting panels and discussions covering Africa’s digital journey, with topics divided into four groups/tracks: Centre Stage, Connectivity and Digital Infrastructure, Data Centres, and Telcos of Tomorrow. Here’s a few of the key sessions we’ve got our eyes on.

Key Sessions and Panels at AfricaCom 2024

Tuesday, November 12th

  • Opening Keynote—Connectivity for All: Addressing the Needs of Underserved Communities: 11:35 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. (Centre Stage) – After opening remarks from Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation reporter Farai Gwaze on AfricaCom’s Centre Stage, stick around for this keynote presentation on connecting underserved communities across the continent.
  • Emerging Technologies Paving the Way for the Future of Connectivity and the Network: 12:20 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. (Connectivity & Digital Infrastructure) – This panel session promises to cover technologies driving efficiency, innovation, and competitiveness, as well as how data analysis can help provide faster and more efficient decision-making.   • Building the Backbone: Telco Strategies for Fibre Network Expansion in Africa: 2:25 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. (Telcos of Tomorrow) – This panel will look at the rollout of fibre across Africa to date, how best to realize its transformative potential, as well as the reasons behind previous delays in expansion and adoption.

Wednesday, November 13th

  • Driving Innovation: How 4G and 5G Will Revolutionize Connectivity in Africa: 12:30 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. (Centre Stage) – This early-afternoon panel session will cover how national broadband plan funds have been used to connect underserved areas, how security and service quality regulations are being enforced, and general affordability of the internet across Africa.
  • Bridging the Digital Divide: Driving Ubiquitous Connectivity for the Future of Africa: 2:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. (Centre Stage) – After the daily Networking Break, this session will look at options to bridge the continental digital divide, with representatives from Bloomberg Intelligence, SEACOM, Tigo Tanzania, AT Ghana, Eutelsat, and the US Trade and Development Agency.
  • Untapped Potential: Broadband Access Solutions for Africa’s Rural Communities: 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Connectivity & Digital Infrastructure) – This session will look at how to overcome obstacles to widespread broadband access across Africa. Options to be discussed include partnerships with satellite providers, technological solutions, and using WiFi hotspots to connect rural areas. Thursday, November 14th

  • Catalysing Continental Growth: New Models for Cross-Border Connectivity: 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. (Connectivity & Digital Infrastructure) – This session will look at ways to overcome cross-border data flow limits to enhance connectivity across the continent.
  • Bridging the Connectivity Gap with Collaboration: How Telco Partnerships Will Drive Innovation in Africa: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (Telcos of Tomorrow) – Learn how businesses in different verticals are collaborating in innovative ways to provide greater online access for all.
  • The Future of Collaboration: Forming Key Partnerships to Revolutionize Connectivity Throughout Africa: 12:25 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. (Connectivity & Digital Infrastructure) – On a similar note, this concurrent session will explore ways in which collaborations and partnerships can bridge the digital gap, with panel members from Unconnected.org, IPNX Nigeria, Project Isizwe, and the US Department of Commerce.

Other Special Events to Attend

There are plenty of opportunities to network and have fun at the Africa Tech Festival, especially at AFEST, the official networking party of the festival! Join your fellow conference attendees at the Grand Africa Cafe and Beach on Tuesday, November 12th at 7 p.m. for an evening of musical performances, fun activities, and the chance to connect with thousands of your colleagues.

The following day, don’t miss the annual Africa Tech Festival Awards at the Bay Hotel, where the most innovative and impactful tech achievements across Africa will be celebrated.
