Of course, we also like it when our customers have nice things to say about Preseem 🙂 At the recent WISPAMERICA 2024 conference in Oklahoma City, we were fortunate enough to have some of our friends offer to step in front of the camera and share how Preseem has helped them out.

Using Access Point Capacity to Drive Sales
Rural Telecommunications of America (RTA) provides affordable fast internet to rural communities across Texas. We caught up with Frank Befera, VP of Sales at RTA, to find out how Preseem’s AP Capacity scores help non-technical staff pinpoint areas for growth.
“We’ve deployed Preseem now in all of our markets, and it has made an amazing difference for us. I work on the sales side, so I’m not a technical person within our operation. But I will tell you when I get to look at the screen and I can see exactly what towers are loaded to what level, how much capacity we have available in what neighborhoods, it makes a huge difference for me on the sales side.
“Now I can have my sales team go out and target the neighborhoods where we have extra capacity. And we know we are going to have good customer experiences and stay away from adding more customers on towers that are overloaded. We never had this information before. We had no way to figure it out in any way that was easily verifiable. And so for me to be able to go and look at that information, it’s made a huge difference for RTA.”
Reducing Subscriber Churn by 30%
Plains Internet is based in Amarillo and delivers fixed wireless and fiber internet to homes and businesses all over the Texas panhandle. Their COO, Andrew Monroe, joined us at WISPAMERICA to share how Preseem has helped them reduce churn by 30%.
Andrew said that Plains Internet began using Preseem lightly at first, to analyze why they had lost customers in the past and to start “fixing some of the bigger network pain points.”
“We hadn’t really used it as an individual consumer proactive tool to make sure that we weren’t having more churn. So that was something that Preseem actually came and helped us with, was working with our guys and trying to get our network straightened out in a proactive measure and looking at pain points across the board, all the way down to an individual user’s latency.
“And it’s done a really good job 1) helping our network team, the NOC, actually have a better handle on what the network health looks like. And then 2) it’s actually helped us with that churn rate. We’ve probably had a 30% reduction in churn just from getting a more granular approach on our processes with our team, looking at what an individual’s latency is and kind of chasing down those flags that Preseem is helping us find.
“So it’s been really great for us. We loved having that granularity that our NOC can look into customers, and it’s really easy to use for our non-NOC (staff), too. We’ve been loving it. We’re really happy with Preseem. It’s more than anything the support the team has given us has been really handy, so we’re a big fan of it.”
Saving an Oversubscribed Network on Super Bowl Sunday
Based in Freeport, Illinois, JCWIFI is the region’s largest locally-owned internet service provider, providing dependable, high-speed internet to subscribers across 5,000 square miles in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
JCWIFI has been using Preseem for two years and has deployed our 5000 and 20000 series of appliances on their network. As JCWIFI’s Division Manager Scott Piehn explains in the video below, they recently saw a tornado rip out two miles of above-ground fiber on one of their two 10GB pipes, right before Super Bowl Sunday 😡
With a surge of usage on the way and half their capacity down, Scott contacted Preseem to see if we could queue his upstream bandwidth to avoid service interruptions and multiple angry calls from customers during the big game. As Scott shared, within 20 minutes Preseem’s support team had a script at the ready to ensure buffer-free streaming and happy subscribers.
“We lost half of our capacity. We were oversubscribed by 50% on Super Bowl Sunday, and our company did not get slammed on Facebook. Everybody—their Super Bowl streamed, no pauses, no stops. We made it through Super Bowl Sunday, and the vast majority of my customers have no concept that we were oversubscribed by 50%. Once fiber came back up, we disabled the patch, and I am super, super happy. Preseem bailed me out.”
